FTIR

Overview of Services

The mission of the FTIR Core Facility is to provide support to the scientific community, across all campuses, to advance knowledge in the area of biomedicine.

The main goal is to provide access and assistance to state-of-the-art FTIR technology in a productive and cost-effective way. The Core specializes in analyses of a broad range of natural biological samples and synthetic materials. The Core Facility is equipped with the PerkinElmer Spotlight 400 and Frontier 400 combined imaging system capable of analyzing samples in a wide range of imaging applications. The system is able to perform analyses in a variety of operating modes, including standard transmission mode, reflection mode, and attenuated total reflection (ATR) mode.

The Spotlight 400 system sets the standard for clarity in FTIR imaging. It delivers an exceptionally wide spectral range and choice of standard image pixel sizes, from a highly sensitive 1.56-μ pixel option to a 50-μ pixel for imaging applications where the speed is of the utmost. Utilizing the FTIR system, the Core Facility strives to maintain this equipment in top condition with minimal downtime for the Jefferson research community.
